Amendment II (US Constitution)
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Article I, Section 22 (Illinois State Constitution)
"Subject only to the police power, the right of the individual citizen to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
The Constitution of the United States and the State of Illinois both guarantees our citizens the right to keep and BEAR arms. The ability to “bear” arms has nothing to do with hunting, but has everything to do with the protection of our freedoms as guaranteed in the Bill of Rights.
I stand firmly against ALL legislation that infringes on this right. I am against "Gun Registration." Although I am for making sure the criminal element does not have easy access to arms, I am for making sure our citizens have the right to defend themselves.
So far, all the "Anti-Gun" legislation in the country has done NOTHING to keep violent crimes down. It is the citizen's right to not only own a gun, but to big it to BEAR it in his own defense.
Further, I will be seeking an Amendment to the State of Illinois Constitution that repeals the clause, "Subject only to the police power" as this is a complete violation to the U.S. Constitution.
This clause in the Illinois State Constitution is a very dangerous provision and must be rescinded. It violates our civil rights to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the United States Constitution.
I will do all that I can protect our rights to keep and bear arms.
I can't do it alone, so that means that I will also be calling on "We, the people of the state of Illinois" and our legislation to amend our state constitution to remove the clause “Subject only to the police power” of Article 1, section 22 which I believe is in stark violation to the U.S. Constitution.
